AMBER ALLEN

Founding Director & Principal Speech Pathologist

Amber’s passion for paediatric feeding has been the cornerstone of her professional journey. From her early days in the field, she recognised the profound impact of supporting children and their families to nurture a healthy relationship with food. This unwavering dedication led her to establish Glasswing Therapy, a venture that has since blossomed into a distinguished multidisciplinary allied health organisation with dozens of qualified and passionate therapists. Under her visionary leadership, Glasswing Therapy has been instrumental in expanding access to top-tier therapy supports and bridging service gaps across Australia, significantly enhancing the lives of those with different abilities across Australia.

As a mother of three children (each with their own unique support needs), Amber brings a deeply personal and empathetic understanding to her work.

Now, with a robust team in place to continue the mission of Glasswing Therapy, Amber has refocused her energies on her primary passion: paediatric feeding. As the founding director of the Paediatric Feeding Clinic, she is committed to improving mealtime experiences and ensuring safe eating practices, tailoring her approach to the unique challenges and needs of each child and their families.

Amber currently works together with our multidisciplinary feeding team to provide holistic assessment and intervention for both children and adults with behavioural challenges, feeding difficulties, and swallowing disorders.

She has completed extensive postgraduate training in the areas of:

  • Paediatric feeding disorders

  • The SOS approach to feeding (targeting problematic feeding behaviours in children)

  • Breast and bottle feeding support in the NICU setting and beyond

  • Enteral nutrition management and tube weaning

  • Fibre Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES)

  • Gastrointestinal disorders and their effects on paediatric feeding

  • Hanen ‘It Takes Two To Talk’

  • Hanen ‘More Than Words’ programs (for children with language delays)

  • Key Word Sign

  • PROMPT therapy

  • Augmentative and alternative communication methods

  • Positive behaviour support

  • Audiometry

  • PECS (a non-verbal form of communication aimed at improving speech acquisition)

  • The Lidcombe program (an evidence based program for children who stutter)

  • The Camperdown program (an evidence based program for adults who stutter)

Under Amber's guidance, The Paediatric Feeding Clinic and Glasswing Therapy have flourished, supported by a team of enthusiastic therapists and staff all united in the goal of delivering an exceptional therapy service, and significantly improving the lives of our clients, their families, and the wider community.
